David Hartley is a commercials and film director, photographer and writer.

1995 -  Director at Homecorp (previously Brave Films), where I directed commercials and idents for clients and brands including Mars, COI ‘Bad Boss’, COI ‘Gremlins’, COI ‘Learn Direct’, TV Licensing, Maltesers, Mercedes Benz, Lemon Tango, BT Cellnet, Dairygold, Birds Eye, Sunsilk and many more. In all I have shot over 60 completely different campaigns.

2008 - Director at Bikini Films in UK, with Kate Elson and Andy Morahan. Also working with international production companies. Recent commercials have included Flora, Austrian Airlines and McDonalds. I am also helping the NFTS Students with their Kodak Student Commercials.

I am known as an actors’ director, with a passion for characterization and improvisation which, combined with a strong element of realism, gives my work a observational and vérité quality. I have shot a short film called ‘Defying Gravity’ about the aesthetic grace and athleticism of BMX riders, to a classical score featuring lots of special effects; and I am currently writing and developing a TV series and feature film with partner Penny Hartley. The rest of the time I have my stills camera in my hand. I ride my BMX, go singlespeed racing around the streets, or I do gymnastics and parkour with my mates.
